Nature's Play

The curtain rises at break of day,
pink filters tint the brightening sky.
Nature is casting for the play.

Dark water ripples, grasses sway,
a pelican preens, prepares to fly.
The curtain rises at break of day.

An alligator stirs in search of prey,
herons mimic a seagull's cry.
Nature is casting for the play.

Ducklings timidly ply the bay,
the alligator blinks a hooded eye.
The curtain rises at break of day.

Grey doves pause as if to pray,
the alligator strikes, a duckling cries.
Nature is casting for the play
as curtain rises at break of day.
