Poetics Presents

Susan Elliott

Susan Elliott is a successful businesswoman who decided to reinvent herself, and return to some of the values and dreams of her flower-child youth. Susan says that she has learned much during the past few months at WVU. She says: "I am very grateful to my mentors and classmates; they gave me both excellent advice and courage."

Writers' Village members look forward to reading more of Susan's work.

Cotton Thermal Lover

Clinging to the flat expanse beneath
warp and woof, my soft
warm pocketed weave
lies in wait,
in wait for the one who
shapes my world.

She bends and stretches, flexes
muscles, presses cool skin
close -
I cling, memories of her form
an old friend.

At times I am flung away
to huddle collapsed, discarded
by her heat, unneeded
I wait
for a chill breeze redemption.

Comfort, my gift
acclaimed by a sigh,
her gratitude
as I am drawn back
into the fold, her shoulder
warm again.
